Blech!

Pros:Nothing
Cons:Everything

Clubs at Brandeis can be placed in two categories - "boring" or "exclusionist." The catalog is full of clubs (scores in fact) but many of them are invisible, do not hold meetings, or "do anything."
Those groups that are active are all the same.

Seriously, there are what seems to be unlimited numbers of a cappella groups on campus. It just makes me sick to my stomach. There are a few all-male, a few all-female, a few coed one all-male Hebrew, one all-female Hebrew, some coed Hebrew, some that sing folk songs, some that sing oldies. One thing they have in common - the same people "singing" that simply suck. These groups put out CDs that only the members and their parents buy. I have given some groups a chance (Spur of the Moment is pretty good - only because they are selective) and listened to a few CDs (listening, not wasting my $12 on them - I'd rather pay a few bucks more and buy from an artist who knows what a musical note is). Seriously, did we ever hear of music to accompany singing. Ug! it gets me so irate. These groups even have the nerve to practice in music rooms reserved for music students (who know what a scale is) or are obnoxious during music concerts when they cannot practice because the events are being recorded. Many members have a God Complex, thinking they have a right to everything just because they are in a singing group.

There are many political groups on campus, and although I am mostly politically neutral, I notice that those groups that bend towards the right are completely silenced and shunned by everyone. Yup, on this ultra-liberal campus almost everyone does not allow "conservative" opinions to be brought out into the open. It seems freedom of speech is relative to these snobs.

The journals/newspapers on campus are usually awful, reflecting the typical Brandeis view that everything in the world in hunky-dorey (did I spell that right?) and there is no evil or wrongdoing on campus. It is also hard to join these groups, as members are constantly exclusionist and back stabbing. Many people I know have joined magazines on campus, submitting their excellent articles, only to find that they weren't printed because a friend of the editor wrote some dribble which appears to be compiled by a pre-schooler.

As previously mentioned, Clubs on campus are supposedly numerous, but are really non-existent. Every year the school holds an activity fair, but signing up gets you nowhere. They never contact you or inform you of events. What a crock and set of lies.
