Homeschooling: Its BS at least where I live

Home-schooling in Wisconsin may have some merit as an idea but its reality is horrifying and awful. It has become a tool to cover up dropout rates and an excuse to keep children home on the farm or to indoctrinate them into some religious cult. If anyone has a defense of the effectiveness of home-schooling I would love to hear it because to me its just a scam.

My main objection is this, in our state (and many others) you are not required to be trained to teach to home-school your children. I am all for individual rights but these cases are more often child abuse or neglect. they can even be cultish as certain religions spend all their time brainwashing (mostly born-again fire and brimstone types). I can't get Johnny to go to school and I need some help at home anyway so I fill out the paperwork that says I "home-school" him. Suddenly I never see him again and nobody is concerned. I don't think the home school movement had this in mind. If any idiot can teach children then why do teachers go to college? Just let 'em learn at home.

Ok so parents are culprits but the worst offender is schools. These are supposed to be bastions of safety for our kids and all they are are people who cover their political bottoms. Wisconsin raised its minimum dropout age to 18 and schools panicked. Now they would have to admit they failed some children and didn't meet their needs. Did they rise to the challenge. No! They simply encourage home-schooling and so-called "alternative" schools and remove these children from their statistics and brag about 98% graduation rates.

Home-schooling is a nice thought twisted into a perverted mess. When you read about the fine education children get here in Wisconsin, remember we only teach the easy ones.
