Summer of a LifetimeJun 21 '00 Write an essay on this topic. There is nothing worse than cramming night and day for the most boring subjects during finals. But there is also nothing better than finishing that last final and taking a deep breath. You’re done with college for now. So what next? Something that people should look into is traveling for the summer. There are just many aspects on why traveling will be best suited for you. Personally, I would like to travel mostly just to get away from school. Summer is a time to relax, to forget about everything in the past four months. In 3 more months, school will start again. Might as well make this summer mean something, because you know that soon enough you’ll be back there again suffering through exams and boring lectures. Summer traveling to almost anywhere will benefit you and make up for the times that you were taking those rigorous exams. It’s a time for fun. To forget everything because you deserve a break. A break from everything and everyone. Sure, it may be bad that you are not making the most of the summer with a job or things like that, but there are just times you have to say enough is enough and just take it easy. It is a time to recharge and make yourself okay for the next semester. It is just a time of no worries. Traveling during the summer is also a good experience. Discounting the expenses, it is a good learning experience if you decide to travel abroad in hopes of studying. Last summer, I learned a great deal of the country of Taiwan. I traveled there not for school experience, but just for fun. But while I was there, I decided to volunteer my time helping kids in a semi-school environment. Words cannot describe the feeling that you have when you believe that you are making a difference in the lives of so many kids. It was a great feeling watching the kids smile and play while you teach and help them. In addition, I was able to learn a new foreign culture. It was nice learning the small things that I had never known about before. When you are in the US, you don’t appreciate the cultures of other countries and you just are understanding to your own. It is exciting and fun watching the customs and practices of a foreign culture. Even though my days were occupied with volunteering, I was still able to enjoy the time there socially. I was able to go out and do the scenic tours which tourists usually do. In only 8 weeks, I learned more than I would ever thought possible about a foreign country and in addition, it feels as though I made a big difference in people’s lives. It is simple to find places to volunteer while traveling. There would be no problem finding anything. Instead of being trapped in a tiny office for the summer, I highly suggest getting out and enjoying the real world. Soon enough, you’ll be back in school, so why not enjoy it? |
