Why NOT To Drink...

First let me say I do take a drink...occasionally. I used to drink ALOT. But after too many times of waking up TRYING to remember what happened the night before, or feeling super bad from a hangover, I decided it was time to not drink so much. Now I might drink if we go out with friends sometime on a weekend. I just don't drink til I throw up anymore. Whew!

See, I learned alot about why not to drink alot from many people. The first being my parents. My father is the alcoholic and my mother was pretty close, she quit though, so that's a plus.

Back to my Dad. For as long as I can remember he has had a drink in his hand. I remember him coming home at night and me running off to my room if I could before he got in the house. I did not want to be around him because I knew he was gonna come in throwing things around, or better yet, throwing someone around.

A drunk is not fun to be around, not when it's all the time. He is a very strung out, stressed out, mean man when he is drinking. Being a "cop" he is also the big, macho, I am king drunk. It was a daily thing for both of them to be drunk. She because she knew of no other way to deal with him. And him because...well, he always had a good reason. Then the fighting starts. Yippee.

So let's see how being a drunk affects the family. The big problem is you seem to forget you have one! Those people are there just trying to get on your nerves, everyone is doing the wrong thing. The drunk is perfect! Right. My father now has had heart attacks, high blood pressure, and has lost part of his family for being such a...jerk.

Now let's see about how alcohol abuse affects your health. I have a brother in law with a serious drinking problem. He is not in very good shape. In fact, he has been in the hospital alot since I met him. For a while there he was in every three weeks! Yup. See, it was something about internal bleeding. His veins had to keep being repaired so he would not bleed to death. Then when that was no longer going to work, after all they can only patch it up so many times, he went in for surgery. They had to go in and fix the veins in his stomach, his gallbladder came out and also his spleen. This was not enough though and a few weeks later he was back at the old bar. He will probably die from his drinking. What a life to live. So I suppose if you enjoy surgery or the thought of death early...go for it.

Now let's take a good look at the drunk self. If you have ever woken up and had to search through your memory then I would have to tell you not to EVER drink like that again.

You wanna wake up and not know where you went, what you did, or who you did whatever it was with? It's a scarey place out there. You might get wasted and sleep with someone who you don't know enough to be sleeping with. Then maybe a few weeks later you will notice some physical things going on with your body and visit the doctor. Then the doctor can give you some meds to get the disease you caught under control. Yeah! Forgot about being careful while you were having such a good time, huh?! Well, your Herpes, Aids, etc. might help you to remember next time.

Oh, I got an idea! Let's drink and drive?! People who drink and drive are idiots. Selfish, foolish idiots. Eventually you will be riding your bike to the bar or walking. You might not be able to go after you ran into some innocent person going home and they are injured or dead, and YOU are in JAIL.

People who abuse alcohol WILL have problems at home, or with their health, or with the law. If alcohol controls you, you WILL see more of the doctor, you will get behind the wheel, and it will affect your relationships.

If you drink, do it responsibly. If you drink too much...stop. Someone out there cares about you and wants you to be around.
