Education vs. SocializationJul 22 '00 (Updated Oct 06 '00) Write an essay on this topic.Since when did "socialization" make it into the public schools as being part of the main curriculum? Maybe it really hasn't, but every time the subject of homeschooling your child comes up, you can bet somebody will ask, " But what about socializing?", "Won't he/she miss out on having friends?" This has got to be the most ignorant question one can ask. Let me share with you my opinion. First of all, those who choose to send their children to public schools should not be doing so merely for their child to socialize. If you are getting your child out of bed at 5:30 a.m. each morning and putting them on a bus bound for school, just so "Johnny" or "Susie" can see their friends and have some fun, or to provide you with a free babysitter while you work, you are to blame for the shape our public schools are in. A child enters school for an education. Period. Socialization begins in the home. As parents, we are teachers. It is our responsibility to teach our children socialization skills, religion, discipline, etc. If you choose public school for your child, it is their duty to give them a basic education, not raise your kids! Parents need to take their children back into their hands. I am from America! The land of the FREE and the BRAVE! We do have rights, and we have the right to choose our child's education. The definition of education is not socialization! Choose your child's education with care. |
