What I Now KnowFeb 09 '00 Write an essay on this topic. When I went away to university for the first time 12 years ago, I was really excited, but I was also scared because I didn't know anyone, and I was miles away from home. At first, I was fine, but then life started getting harder for me. I would sleep all day and be up all night, my eating habits changed, and I just didn't care about school. Looking back, I can see that I was suffering from depression, and I should have sought immediate help. But being young and naive (or dumb), I didn't get the help, which was so easily accessible, that I needed. There is a difference between feeling blue every now and then, like when you thought you aced a test but wound up failing it, and actually being depressed. When you are depressed, you don't feel like getting up in the morning, your eating habits change, and it affects your overall being. If you feel like that, you must seek help immediately ! Don't wait! I believe that there are counselors at every college, and if there aren't, talk to a trusted professor or a student peer. Just talk to someone! Sometimes getting an objective opinion may be what you need, sometimes you may need to get professional help. Just, please, seek some sort of advice if you feel like you are depressed. Don't let depression take over your life, like it did to mine. |
