On-campus Vs. Off-campus Jobs? Read On For More LightMar 28, 2000 Write an essay on this topic.Would you like to work to make some pocket money? Or do you work just to avoid boredom because all of your bills are paid for by your parents, a scholarship program, grants or trust fund? Or do you work just to meet other people, peers..and? Or do you just volunteer your time? Whatever your answer is, I will encourage to do something worthwhile while you are in college. Do some work to gain work experience. It will look good on your resume! Even if you don't need it because you are a young Internet entrepreneur, the experience of interacting with others will become very invaluable. Most Internet companies use a team work approach. You folks will work as part of a team. So you will need to be proud of your manners and social skills. How many good employees, partners or team mates end up leaving a group because of team mate's personality? I don't want to describe that kind of personality. If you have worked on an unmanageable team, you know what I am talking about here. Some of the part-time jobs that are available on campus are: newspaper editor, dorm or apartment RC or resident counselors, lab monitors or lab tech (support), college or university outreach worker, library assistant, tutor, Cafeteria assistant, Financial aid assistant, professors' assistant, translator or interpreter, security, special events (sports, college or university-based events) worker etc. The downside to an on-campus job is the low pay. You can also work part-time off-campus. Most of these jobs will pay enough to make ends meet. Depending on your interests and availability of works in your area, you may find part-time jobs at your local food stores, banks, agri-businesses, Internet startups, construction companies, shipping companies, post offices, hospital, schools etc. No matter what you do, look at the investment in your future. You will be able to use your experience to get you a better job while in school and after graduation. If you are a top-notched student with a high grade point average, if you are an average student, a minority student, all you need to do is to do what you need to do to get the work experience. For sure, a part-time job will give it to you. |
