Pros: Descent reception, indoor/outdoor mountable, great for RV’s and apartments, non-obtrusive design, 3 mounts provided. Cons: Still not as good as a large/ugly aerial.
I bought this HDTV antenna to compliment my DirecTV HDTV receiver. At the time I bought the Terk 55, CBS was the only network channel broadcast in HDTV by DirecTV. So since I was spending money, why not spend a little more on a HDTV antenna . ...
Pros: Easy to set up and looks nice. Cons: Must have very short cable run to avoid loss of signal
I purchased a 36" Sony WEGA HDTV ready TV and DirecTV Hughes Platinum HDTV satellite receiver about eight months ago. When DirecTV finally came out with their HDTV line up a couple of months later it was $11 a month to get just four channels, so I ...
Pros: Great Reception, easily mounted in many different ways, wind resistance, size. Cons: May need a rotator.
I live in a condo and can't permanently attach anything to the building. Also I can't put an antenna on the roof. I have this antenna attached to a mast and a rotator anchored in a bucket of cement on my balcony. The reception is fantastic....
Pros: Can be placed nearly anywhere. Lots of mounting brackets included. Cons: Very poor quality build and poor signal strength for the price.
I just got a new HDTV, so I ran out to Radio Shack first and bought the best antenna they had for about $40. I plugged it in, did a channel scan, and only got three stations. "I need more power" I thought. So I bought the TV55 at Best Buy for $99....
I currently subscribe to DirecTV, but in Tucson, AZ there is no local channel support so I installed a Terk 42 antenna that clips to the DirecTV dish, this was fine for most channels, but not all. So I upgraded to a Terk TV-55 and have been amazed at...
Pros: None Cons: The WORST antenna I have ever used.
Too expensive for its pathetic performance.
I had just purchased an HDTV tuner and I wanted to get an antenna. Since I live less than 10 miles from Chicago, I figured just about any antenna would do.
I started with a generic set of rabbit ears. They worked okay. Channels would come in...
Buy it from Local store you may need to return it. by qb_receiver ,Dec 03 '03
Pros: small size, looks Cons: performance
Ditto to the review by nutty_buddy.
I bought this antenna after consulting the antennaweb.org
I live in Shrewsbury MA and was not able to get anything coming from Boston with this antenna. The antenna was outdoors in the balcony of the three story apartment complex third floor. The tuner would lock on PBS HD only for a minute or so then give up.
After trying for 5 hours or so I gave up.
Just called the cable company.... surrender finally.
Pros: Slick and compact, easy to install Cons: Poor reception
TERK TV55 is a slick antenna that is just not up to its billing. Its manual states that this antenna was designed for both single and multi-family homes. The sales person made it sound like you could just stick the antenna outside, if you should so desire, with no regard to signal direction, because of TV55s advance helical antenna technology. The fact is that to get a good reception, you still need to pay attention to the basics.
Where I live, near the HOLLYWOOD sign, signals are pretty strong. Yet from the beginning, TV55 was just okay. It could be possible that my unit was defective, but when it rained, TV55 soaked. I thank TV55 for showing me, in the rain, exactly where NBCs signal was coming from (52 degrees from magnetic North).
That was enough for me. I took down TV55 (would you like to buy my unit?) and installed Winegard PR-4400. Havent had any problems since.
