Pros: Good sound, Dolby Digital and DTS, 3 digital optical inputs. Cons: Mass produced, ugly and sluggish remote, spring clips for rear and center speakers.
Quantity versus quality. It is a decision of utmost significance. One well-trained U.S. Marine or 5 (heck, even 25) poorly equipped Iraqi soldiers. A rabbit with 7 offspring or a human with one child. One Audi A6 or two Kia Sephias. Ten Sony...

Pros: Great Sound Cons: Hard to use, Expensive
My Grandparents recently received this receiver around the Christmas season as a gift. They are not avid stereo users and I wondered what exactly they would do with it, but I figured I'd let them play around with it a bit and see how they liked it....

Pros: Well built mid-range HT receiver. Cons: Musically a dullard... Unless skillfully modified.
The Good I managed to acquire this receiver for little more than an hours work for a local Pawn Shop. At the time it was built, as others have said before, it was at the top of the mid-range line of Sony "DE" series receivers. Sony has, over ...

Pros: Dolby Digital and DTS decoder. S-Video inputs and outputs. Learning 2-way remote control. Cons: 2-way remote can be a little slow at times, however this is not a show-stopper.
If you are looking for a quality receiver at a reasonable price, then look no farther than the Sony STR-DE945. At 110 watts per channel, the sound quality is exactly what you would expect from a Sony product - great.
There isn’t much that you...

Pros: Love the remote! The sound is among the best in its class, for the price. Cons: Nothing critical enough to fret over.
I have owned an STR-DE945 for over a year now, and have absolutely NO complaints.
For starters, Epinions lists the MSRP, which is $600. You can find this receiver for as little as $350, almost half the MSRP, merely by going to sites that...

Pros: Price-to-feature ratio, power, remote control, flexibility, lots of gadgetry, plenty of input/output jacks Cons: Manual sucks, no CD digital in, no five channel stereo
I am not an audiophile but after audtioning similar pioneer, onkyo etc. receivers, I felt the Sony was the best value for the money. My system: Sony de-945, onkyo DV-s501 DVD player. Speakers: Center Infinity CC-2, Front Infinity RS-2, Rear Paradigm...

Pros: Learning Remote!!! Features, function. You get it all! Cons: no gold plated speaker connectors
Okay, so I'm a fanatic!
I had an STR-DE545, but it hissed so badly that I took it back for an STR-DE845, which was awesome! But I found a deal on the STR-DE945 so I took it! With the learning remote, and a few other functions over the...

Pros: Plethora of features, GREAT value for money Cons: TOO many features, you really need to spend time setting it up.
I have been buying and selling receivers for quite some time trying to find the right one for my home theatre setup, but I think my search has finally stopped. Other receivers in the same price range (mainly the similar Kenwood and JVC models) don't...

Pros: Great appearance, many inputs/outputs, multi-room capability, learning remote Cons: Lots of settings
The Sony STR-DE945 receiver is not only great looking, it has absolutely loads of features. In deciding which receiver to go with, I decided to have an entire Home Theater with Sony products, as I have had extremely good luck with their products. My...

Pros: Sleek style, S-video switching, learning remote, cool features. Cons: Features and remote a little confusing, power output a little low.
This receiver definately has its positive sides. If you are someone just starting out with the whole component system, this receiver is great. However, for those of us who appreciate a little something more in our stereos, this something extra will...

Pros: The sound output is great. Allows you to tweak to your hearts content. Cons: Bi-directional remote takes time to learn and eats batteries.
I had a Sony STR-DE515 and a Sony DVD with 5.1 channel RCA outs on each, so I was in no real hurry to get to a new reciever, so I searched the net for the best price. I found it at http://www.yourinsider.com for only $389.99 with a great shipping...

Pros: Very stylish, especially the blue light Cons: Confusing remote.
Having worked in a sales position for home audio products, I have had the chance to gain a lot of experience with many different products such as the Sony STR-DE945.
I myself own this wonderful component (a well thought-out decision, by the...

Pros: Lots of features, lots of inputs/outputs, cool remote, decent power, good sound. Cons: Operation is a bit complex at first, remote a bit slow.
The Sony STR-DE945 is one of the better mid-range receivers I found when looking for a good receiver to start my home theater. I didn't need audiophile quality (nor could I afford it), but I wanted a receiver that could handle the varied sound and video...

Pros: Very sturdy, excellent remote, plenty of inputs Cons: Only one set of inputs for video games, remote screen lag
When I purchased this receiver (for a measly $380 at a local shop sale), I expected pretty much what I always get from Sony: reliable components with a so-so interface. I was right on one of the two counts, this component is one of the most durable and...

Pros: Power for price, dts, dolby digital, learning remote Cons: Manual could be clearer
As part of my plan to build a decent home theater system, I recently purchased a Sony STR-DE945 receiver. What I was looking for was a receiver that had the most popular surround sound technologies, (dolby digital and dts), that had the power to do the...
