by Runningjym , May 08 '01
Pros: Affordable expandable memory, easy to operate, long battery life.
Cons: Bit on the bulky side, crappy headphones.
I first read about this product on Amazon.com a few months ago. I was intrigued by the fact that you can use it as a portable drive as well as an MP3 player. I was looking for a replacement for the Sony MusicClip MP3 player I had bought an suffered with...

A Great Little MP3 Player.

by spoalanm , Nov 11 '00
Pros: Great sound, Great concept.
Cons: Headphones.
You have to admire the people at Iomega. They have a product called a Click drive which nobody wants. Originally it was supposed to be for photographers who were on vacation and used up the storage on their memory cards. The idea was to download your...

HipZip

by timbo141 , Jan 19 '02
Pros: Compact and easy to carry.
Cons: none
The Iomega HipZip MP3 player is a great buy. Instead of the built in memory it has interchangeable 40mb disks. These are great because you can just make a new mix or just delete the songs off the disk itself. This saves time when you want your songs...

HipZip - Iomega finally comes through!

by TLWirth , Nov 02 '00
Pros: Versatility, sound quality, battery life and portability.
Cons: Included headphones
I recently became hooked on MP3 players. First, I bought the otherworldly Casio Wrist Audio WMP-1V. Everybody who sees it loves it, it sounds great, but it is not easy to upload MP3s to it and 32 Mb of memory was barely enough to hold a single CD....

Pros: Small, affordable, good sound, ease of use
Cons: Headphone Jack may get loose
This product is excellent! I bought this product to listen to when I work-out and it's been great. Each day I make a new playlist in Music Match (which is painless) and then I download the list to the hipzip. The whole transfer process for 9 songs is...

I had been thinking about getting any MP3 player alot because I have about 200megs worth of mp3’s on my hard drive. So, when Christmas time came, I went shopping! I looked at a lot of mp3 players, and not so many were Mac compatible but the Iomega HipZip...

A great idea from Iomega

by blumarble , Apr 30 '01
Pros: Small, lightweight, cheap expandable memory, great sound, can be used as a portable drive.
Cons: Sizable initial investment, poor headphones
This is a great product. I've spent a good couple of weeks (which is a lot for an impulse buyer like me) searching stores, epinions, the web, etc. looking for just the right MP3 player. I wanted just the right one. Lots of memory or at least...

Pros: Cheap disks, also a hard drive, lots of extras, lots of fun!!
Cons: The Headphones suck, and it may be a little big, but nothing major
I've had an old Rio 300 for a long time. That's the old-school one with 32 MB of memory. I wanted more space so I tried to expand it, but I didn't think it was worth it to buy a $100+ SmartMedia card. So I looked around for a new player but I couldn't...

Iomega's HipZip is Hip

by lynus Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 200, Mar 10 '01
Pros: Uses little inexpensive disks to expand music storage.
Cons: Large size. Small amount of music fits on each disk.

Cons: Lousy earphones by comparison. A little too bulky. Case does not fit snuggly.

Pros: Made for working out this design is perfect. Expandable at $10 a cartridge
Cons: Tough to know if this is going to be an acceptable medium in the future

Cons: A little bulky, supplied headphones are sub-par, and can potentially skip

Cons: Mechanical parts
I started out looking for various MP3 players on the market. Some
were small (Sony stick), some were bulky (CD player size), some just
looked plain ugly. There are USB versions, Parallel versions, and I saw
one that had both USB and...

It's Aight

by nilepower , May 11 '04
Pros: Menu Structure, Sound Quality, Unlimited Space
Cons: HUGE SIZE, noisy hard drive sounds, Click disks
I have purchased the Iomega Hipzip about 3 years back, when it was first released, until now it's working better than ever, but the money that i payed for it isn't really worth it anymore, i mean there are better mp3 players out there right now, and ...

HipZip: There's Many a Slip Twixt a Cup and a (Hip) Zip

by m001 , Sep 19 '01
Pros: Terrific sound quality, Uses inexpensive Click discs, Supports WMA
Cons: Awful headphones, Very limited storage capacity
Ah, the joys of portable MP3 players! Hours and hours of music compressed for your listening pleasure and available for your morning jog, your work-out at the gym, your stroll with baby, your cross-country jaunt in the SUV. Well, there has been an...

I thought I was getting a long-lasting MP3 player, I was wrong!!

by bxk209 , Aug 06 '02
Pros: No CDs=No skipping
Cons: Moving parts=easy to break
The Intro:

Before I got the Iomega Hipzip Digital Audio Player 40MB, I had been looking for a good, portable MP3 player for a long time, without success. A CD-MP3 player I bought was just terrible, it skipped on any light jostle, so I returned...

A Capable But Flawed MP3 Player

by bleugoose , Mar 27 '02
Pros: Inexpensive & expandable media, WMA compatible, great sound, battery life
Cons: Unexplained freeze-ups, non-replaceable battery, larger than some players
The Hipzip (HZ) represents my first MP3 player purchase. Quite honestly, the only reason I purchased this player instead of a competitor was the fact that I know someone who works for Iomega, and I knew that I would get some free media—the click! or...

Iomega HipZip - Back to the Store from Whence it Came

by amykhar Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 500, Oct 11 '00
Pros: small, expandable memory
Cons: never worked right, disks were hard to find, sound wasn't good
Typically, I am an impulsive shopper. However, when I set out to buy an MP3 player, I actually tried to do a little research. I read a few Epinions on various models, and hit Best Buy’s computer department with an idea of models that I didn’t ...

The first toy I've enjoyed in a long time...then it broke

by mr_chupon99 , Apr 24 '01
Pros: Small, fun to tinker with, extra disks are cheap, ease of use.
Cons: VERY buggy, both hardware and software wise. Will break very quickly (within a month).
I wrote this huge review for this little toy, because I was so pleased with it. It was working wonderfully...then it broke. If you recall a children's book called "Matilda", the father is a used car salesman who would sell cars that would work just...

It ain't a bargain if you can't use it

by tomorrow2day , Nov 17 '02
Pros: Cheap media in Clik zip discs
Cons: Bugs? INFESTED! Won't hold a charge after a month.
That's what my mom always said, and this MP3 player proves her right. I loved it at first, but soon it began to show its true colors.

The discs are inexpensive, but very hard to find - although you can sure order them from iomega!

Decide carefully before you buy.

by cleared_direct , Jul 11 '01
Pros: Removable media. Good sound quality. Can play songs loud!
Cons: Questionable quality. Buggy firmware. Packaged headphones are pathetic.
I love the ability to take my music anywhere nowadays. I started with the Walkman, then moved up to a Discman, started toying with MiniDisc players, and then now MP3 players. I love the fact that with MP3 players, you can transfer songs very quickly...

The worst product I have had the displeasure of owning

by fluence , Nov 08 '04
Pros: It's sleek and looks nice.
Cons: Bulky. Awful support from a terrible company. Zero manufacturing quality. Disks only 40MB.
I purchased the IOMEGA Hipzip quite some time ago, because I thought the idea was sound and since it was IOMEGA it would be a high quality product with excellent support. Boy, was I mistaken. First of all, the player's functionality is severely ...

Good mp3 player, good...
by topcat_la_dt3000 ,Dec 16 '02
Good mp3 player, good sound quality and portability and easily downloads mp3's with USB cable. Can also be used as a portable disk drive. However, the disk media are expensive and must be extracted and inserted into the unit. The rechargeable battery in my unit began to fail within 9 months and it can not be replaced by user. The internal disk drive on this unit also failed within 9 months. could not insert or extract disks.

by ponymask_dt3000 ,Dec 17 '02
I have had great experiences with other Iomega products, but would never recommend this particular product. It would repeatedly lock up, and the only way to get it unlocked is to connect it back to a computer via the USB, and this only worked for a while. Now it won't unlock ever, and it's out of warranty. Iomega won't touch it, and neither should anyone else!

by allie-i_dt3000 ,Feb 10 '03
I bought this product on the strength of the Iomega name, but they BLEW it with this one! I had nothing but trouble with it from the start. The battery would not hold a charge, it cannot be replaced by the user; the unit would seize and could not read disks; the untit would power down in the middle of playing and not come back on; Iomega wants $100 just to look at it...weak support for an even weaker product. Buyer beware - save yourself the trouble and choose another player!
