Be Wary of Termination Fees
by idwk ,Jun 01 '05
Pros: None Cons: They rip you off on termination fees
I had an account with AT&T that I canceled July 2004. I canceled service July 17, 2004 and the end of my billing cycle was July 23, 2004.
As you know, Cingular bought over AT&T. In April 2005 -- 9 months after I canceled service with AT&T -- I received a bill from Cingular stating that I still owed $46.38 for "end of billing cycle" fee!!
This is outragious for 2 reasons:
1 -- My contract was with AT&T and it was settled and closed July 2004
2 -- I canceled my service BEFORE the end of my billing cycle date!
I've been on the phone with multiple agents and supervisors from Cingular -- the last one I talked you actually threatened to send this to a collection agency and screw up my credit report if I don't pay! This is freaking insane!!
I'm filing a complaint with Better Business Bureau...but save yourself the frustration and money and go with another wireless provider.

Cingular Ruined my Birthday
by lisajansen ,Jan 16 '05
Pros: None Cons: Every aspect of the program.
It is my birthday, and I was wondering why no one has called me so far today to wish me a happy birthday. Well, I just found out why--Cingular disconnected me for a reason I know not why. I pay my bills as soon as I receive them. I am speculating it is because I paid the bill over the phone using credit card, and the company is so incompetent that they don't realize I paid my bill because it was through a means other than by check.
I swear to god, every single month, I spend about 3 hours trying to resolve issues due to Cingular screwing up either my bill or my connection. I have never had a problem with any company in my life until I started my relationship with Cingular. I have already filed a complaint with the BBB, and at this point I am ready to suit. They better watch the hell out.

Only $300.00 to get rid of it? Get my checkbook!
by tex-x ,Nov 20 '04
Pros: Only $300.00 to wipe them off the bottom of my shoe. Cons: 15 words are not enough to do this entry proper justice.
We had one of the 2 phone plans, with all the standard features that all the wireless companies seem to lump together these days.
Without a long detailed write up I'll just give a quick summary:
- Over billing
- "Yes we agree you got over billed, no we can't fix it" statements from customer dis-service reps (I swear one of them actually said "Thank You, Drive Through" during one of the calls).
- Dropped calls.
- MORE dropped calls
- In case I didn't mention it DROPPED CALLS.
- Lies (Particularly about the billing problems).
- More lies.
I finally had enough and paid the $300.00 early termination fee after 1 year of so called service.
We had this plan in 2 different states and even in large metro areas (about 900 miles apart) we got the same results.

Cingular ruined AT&T !
by mgould3090 ,Jul 20 '05
Pros: GSM network is great when it works. Best phone choices. Cons: Lots of dropped calls.
I had been a client of AT&T wireless for about 4 years before this merger with Cingular and didn't have any problems at all (dropped calls, customer service etc.) Since they have merged, the number of dropped calls has gone thru the roof ! And I don't travel anywhere different now vs. then. To make it even more frustrating, lately I will call someone, hear it ringing, and then when someone picks up, the sound on my end cuts out. They can here me fine but I can't hear anything they say. So I hang up and call back and it usually will work. This is the case even on my wifes phone, so I know its not mine. I would say I have an issue on about 1 out of every 4 or 5 calls.

Great Support.
by dfbradford05 ,Aug 24 '05
Pros: Great Support!!! Cons: None.
When I first purchased my Cingular phone and called to activate it, the rep said my sim card was bad. She said a new one would be sent to me, instead of making me hold she called me back after she had the new sim card ordered, to y surprise I had the sim card in my hand the very next day. Cingular has excellent customer support.

Cingular worst Customer Service out of all carriers
by dchiang ,Dec 05 '05
Pros: Decent coverage around Bay Area Cons: Customer Service
Hold time
Customer Support open hours
Consistent rate plan changes and inflexibility
Cingular has the worst customer service compared to Sprint and Verizon due to their customer support staff. In order to have any action taken on your account, callers must talk to the managers after discussing with the CSR for over an hour after going through the boilerplate questions.
This particular user is leaving Cingular for T mobile as I have had enough with their inconsistent service, their change in rate plan prices which makes their customers consistently pay more and lock them in for longer terms, and their terrible customer support.
If they are the best service, as a fact, they do not to keep their customers hostage.

A "run-a-round" was all I got!
by jaymcgrath ,Jan 20 '06
Pros: In-store rep was smart, courteous & helpful. Cons: Do not trust that equipment they promote is good. Do your own research 1st!
Spent big bucks getting their recommended equipment only to discover that the equipment (Motorolla with the Cingular logo and Cingulars blessing) HAD KNOWN PROBLEMS ! Then, to add insult to injury, when I finally changed phones they charged me a second time INCLUDING a bogus UPDATE service charge. When I attempted to contact national customer support (via telephone) to review these issues I got a patented shut-the-customer-up speech from the Cingular Representative. Very disappointed! I have been a worthy customer with excellent paying habits. You would think they would be smart enough to take good care of excellent customers who would in-turn speak well of their company.

Cingular Wireless Ripoff, poor customer service beware of seller!
by enforcer_dt3000 ,Nov 02 '04
Pros: They will smile while they take your money. Cons: Their customer service does not exist. Outrageous charges. $78.38 for 13 minutes of service.
I signed up for Cingular Wireless and was assured there was no early termination fee.The phone would not work at my house. They charged me $78.38 when I returned the phone. I was told, "Oh, you still have to pay the activation fee, even if the phone didn't work."
The local dealer Cingular Arroyo Gande Western Wireless was of no help. They did not cancel the service, so I had to spend 2 hours on the phone with Cingular Customer dis-Service to get it resolved. Everyone kept saying "You owe us $78.38 for 13 minutes of service."
Cingular is a ripoff. There is no customer service after you hand over your money. Do not spend a dime with them. They will lie to you when you start the service, when you call in for service and when you end the service.
Don't believe anyone at the customer service centers. I provided them documentation via fax and all of a sudden, the person I was told to fax the information to, never existed.
Don't give them a dime. Nothing but aggravation!

Raising the bar
by renzo1954 ,Jun 18 '05
Pros: the phone was pretty, and took pictures Cons: the phone did not work as a phone only as a camera
I had my phone for 2 days and had to disconnect. We had no reception at all while in our home. Thats understandable, what is not was the $393.00 bill we received from Cingular for the 2 days of, I hate to call it service, it took an act of Congress and numerous calls to their office, to have them reduce the bill to $32.76. If my calculations are correct that is $507.78 for 1 month of service. Stay away from Cingular unless you have time to kill.

They will screw you over if you switch plans..
by eddiek101 ,Sep 17 '05
Pros: Free mobile-to-mobile Cons: Customer service, rates
I was originally using a Cingular GoPhone Pay-As-You-Go, because they had a $29.99 offer for the Nokia 6010 phone.
After I had started using it more than I had anticipated (over $100 in 2 weeks), I had decided to switch over to a plan from them, for $49.99 a month, with 400 minutes and unlimited night and weekends.
I called customer service to change my plan over, which they did. I later discovered that my account had been closed. I called customer service back and told them I had switched plans but my phone was disconnected. They recconnected service. I originally had about $58 in my account balance, but they could only recover half!
I am going to do a credit card chargeback on EVERY charge for Cingular, except for the phone I purchased. This will come back to bite them.
I just purchased a new phone from another carrier. I will not disclose the carrier, because I do not want it to sound like I am attempting to advertise for them, however I will write a review once I have everything set up.

Not bad service in city but no signal in rural area
by bearboxer ,Oct 24 '05
Pros: Nationwide plan, number of phones to choose from Cons: Maps show coverage in areas of Southwest Oklahoma where there is no service.
If I am in town, I can most of the time, get connected. If I travel between towns then I lose signal (even with external antenna) about 2-3 miles out of town. When traveling around the Southwestern part of Oklahoma the maps are greatly over rated. Can have friend with me that has U.S. Cellular and he can talk while I have no service.

If You're Looking For the Run-Around...
by gettingeven ,Aug 25 '05
Pros: I hear they may be outsourcing many of their customer reps. Cons: BAD SERVICE. Plus, many of their phones are overpriced&outdated compared to other co.
If you're looking for the run-around, nasty I'm-doing-you-a-favor customer service, and to be treated like a criminal rather than a customer- GO TO CINGULAR WIRELESS!!! One particular customer service rep: Gordon Cannon...unreal! I am an African-American, and unfortunately could tell immediately that he was black. His Uncle Tom approach to mistreating the customer was a perfect imitation down to the letter. I'm not sure what's going on with cingular wireless, but I'm putting my prepaid phone up for sale on eBay, and heading over to T-Mobile!

I hate cingular
by tallschu ,Aug 02 '05
Pros: Uh, I'm still thinking Cons: They rip me off every chance they can and hope I won't notice.
There bill requires training in order to read. I got a special offer through my work and couldn't find any of the figures I was quoted for several months on any bill. I have spoken with customer service who told me the plan I was on didn't exist in a very sexy voice. I am paying about twice as much as I anticipated. This month they added roadside assistance to my bill and added a fee for each of my three phones for this month and last month. I don't even know what this service is. The phones are for my kids who don't drive. I will cancel this service when my contract terminates. I can't wait.

I want out!
by esc319 ,Nov 28 '04
Pros: Dropped calls Cons: Dropped calls, unclear connections, webiste technical problems and stale account information. RAISING THE BAR?
My account online has my September statement still up and this is almost December. You can't find hardly anything useful on their site and they make it hard for you to find out how to contact them by E-mail. I've been making an estimated payment for months because I don't get the E-mail I'm supposed to get when my online statement is ready. This is really one of the worst experiences I've had with a company that I've ever paid money to.
