| caconti's Full Review: Nokia 3210 GSM Cellular Phone |
And The Hunt Continues…
Well, how could I resist? My previous cell phone reviews have generated so much interest that I simply can’t resist playing with my coworkers cell phones whenever I can pry the little buggers away from them. My favorite of the electronic toy communicators I’ve seen so far this month? The Nokia 3210.
What makes this phone such a winner? Great pricing, solid performance and a generous bow to the need for aesthetic bliss. What in the heck does that mean? Read and learn…
An Early Digression on Facelifts
I have to admit it, I’m a sucker for a fad as long as it has at least a tenuous anchor in the practical world. Nokia has cornered the market with its 13 changeable faces, allowing fashion junkies to properly accessorize their cell phones with their latest outfit. Silly and pretentious? Yes. A lot of fun? Oh yeah!
But how is the facelift feature practical? For those of us who toss our phones around like a ragdoll and manage to scratch them constantly, the process of changing faces can mean saving face (nothing more embarrassing than a battered cell phone)…
The Upsides
1.Price-In a world of ever expanding features and prices, it’s nice to see something with a price that puts a smile on your face. At $55, the Nokia 3210 is one of those rare pleasures. The best part is that the $55 suggested retail price is a highball figure.
Like any good New Yorker shopping for anything, no cell phone buyer in his right mind pays full retail anymore. With rebate deals, sign-up discounts and great web bargains, almost any phone out there can be had for at least 10% off the MSRP. What’s that mean for you the consumer? Spend some time hunting and you can have this phone for $20-30.
2.Battery-For those of us who just aren’t smart or responsible enough to remember to charge up their phones, battery life is an essential factor in cell phone choice. The Nokia 3210 is a great performer with 260 hours of standby and almost four and a half hours of talk time. Ten days of standby? Even I can remember to charge up every other week…
3.Features-
*Phone Book-Holds up to 250 entries
*Ring-Choose from 40 different pre-set ring options
*Games-You know you want them! They turn your phone into a pocket arcade perfect for long commutes.
*One Touch Voicemail-Just lay in on the 1…
*Power Save-Goes into powersaver mode automatically when phone is out of network range
*Call Waiting
*Caller ID
*Call Forwarding
*Keyguard-Keeps you from accidentally hitting a button with your ear and disconnecting
*Display-Automatically toggles between basic and full graphics layout for the most efficient display.
A Caveat
My only warning about the 3210 is that the volume is definitely not the strongest out there. While hearing is still pretty easy as long as there’s no excessive background noise, those who are somewhat hard of hearing may want to reconsider this one…
The Final Verdict
At $55 or less, you simply can’t beat this phone if you’re looking for a good value. It performs well and is easy on the eyes and the wallet, and for a lot of cell phone buyers that should be enough to keep you happy and connected…
