| cdobrin's Full Review: Sony SAT-B3 Digital Satellite System |
I don't mind paying a little more if I really think that I am getting a product that will serve me longer and better than its cheaper counterparts. I think that most people will be tempted to buy the cheaper RCA system, but the extra $100 or so seems well worth it with this Sony system. The picture is absolutely flawless. The sound is, as advertised, CD quality. Its easy to use, and all the features as pretty easy to learn. I decided to run three T.V.'s from my dish system. This would pose a problem to other systems as you can only buy two decoder boxes per dish and you only get 2 remotes. This is where I think the Sony really flexes some innovative muscle. One of the boxes comes with, as an option, a radio remote. This thing works anywhere in the house. There is no line of site or infrared, so when I am watching in the room without the decoder box, you can still change the channel. I work out in the basement, bring the remote downstairs with me, and the remote changes the channels of the box upstairs. As far as I know, the other systems don't have this capability. I did have some problems getting it set up correctly though. I had the system professionally installed, but it wasn't done correctly. Turns out that if you just follow the directions, it works perfectly. As a bonus, if you are previewing what's on tomorrow with the guide, and you click on a show that has not started yet, the box automatically programs your VCR to record it. WOW.
