| Amanda_Jones's Full Review: Nokia 7110 GSM Cellular Phone |
I bought this phone to replace an old NEC phone on an existing contract. The phone has an upgrade cost of £80 on a one-2-one contract in the UK, but as I had an £80 allowance (high bills, always paid on time), it cost me nothing.
This phone is WAP enabled, and has an infra-red port for easy data connection. It is easy and convenient to print material out from this phone, and also easy to connect to the internet with. The ariel doesn't need to be pulled out, which I like as there is no danger of snapping it off when extended. The keys are covered by a flap which can either be pulled out, or can be flipped out by pressing a silver button in the reverse side of the phone. I like the flap idea. My first phone had one, and I found it very useful. My last phone didn't have the feature, and I found that keys got pressed in my bag, as I never remembered to lock the keyboard! The flap also means that when you are using the phone, you have your ear and mouth against the speakers and microphone, which saves contortions of the face.
It's very light, about 5oz, and a useful size. There are smaller ones on the market, but having tried some of them out in the shop I concluded that phones can be too small. The keys on many are too small and close together to use and dial with easily, but on this Nokia they are spaced carefully and are easy to use without making the phone too large.
One useful feature, that I haven't had on a phone before, is a rollerball in the centre of the phone. With this you can compose text messages, scroll though names in the phonebook, and access menus. It takes a couple of days to get used to the idea, but once you have it's the most convenient thing on the phone.
I haven't had WAP facilities on a phone before, so I can't compare this against any other phones. Personally, I don't use the feature much anyway, as I find phones in general too small to convey much useful information.
Reception on this phone is better than the NEC I had before, in any given area. It also picks up a signal in parts of my parents' house that I've never got a signal in before, on either of my previous phones. The stand-by time is something incredible like 11 days, so if you aren't careful you lose the charger between times!
Mine came with a hands-free kit thrown-in for the price, which is always nice.
I think this phone is extremely good. The instruction booklet is clear and helpful, and explained new ideas such as WAP to me very well. My only gripe with the phone is a suspicion that the flap could prove a bit fragile, over time. I intend to treat the phone with some care anyway, so I hope this isn't a problem.
This phone replaced an NEC phone that I can't recommend much. The review of that is at http://www.epinions.com/elec-review-767C-4AC76C5-3A087BAF-prod4
It comes with a 1 year warranty.
