| darkw0lf's Full Review: Infinity RS-1 |
These speakers allow you to fill the room with sound, not speakers. The small size allows the speakers to fit almost anywhere, while the quality that Infinity is known for will meet the sound needs for pretty much any room.
First I will say that if you have a dedicated room for home theatre, these are probably not you main front speakers of choice, but do not discount them for surrounds. If you need speakers for a system going into a den or bedroom, this is a set to consider. The 'injected cones' that are the drivers for these speakers make for a clear crisp sound, with deep, powerful base even with a relatively weak signal.
This is basically the flagship series for Infinity, so all the components are top quality. Silk tweeters, polycarbonate driver cones. These are solid, reliable speakers. They are rated for 15-100W, so most any application you can think of, they can handle. I use them for my home theatre system and find them very nice. Listening to my dual CD Les Miserables is like sitting in the theatre. Very warm, and full, I want to lean over to tell the artists in the pit they are doing great. These speakers, while putting out plenty of volume, are not going to fill up a huge room with lots of seats (like a special built theatre room) so don't look to this size of speaker for that. If you have a small to medium sized room in need of speakers, you have come to the right place though. The Reference series, in general, is quality personified, so if you have bigger spaces, move up to bigger speakers. Though I have never experienced them, I am sure the RS-10s could easily blow down any doors you might need them to.
The frequency response is really amazing for speakers of this size as well. For many manufacturers you see frequency response fall off for smaller sized models, even in top quality lines. Not the case for these. The difference between the FR for the RS-5 (the highest model w/o a sub) and these is small. Both top out at 20kHz, and the 5s go down to 35, while the 1s only go to 55. Not bad. Don't know what they are supposed to cost, mine were a gift.
