| kolider's Full Review: The Tom Green Show |
Tom Green. To be honest, I think he is a GREAT comedian. Are his stunts insane, disgusting, sick and twisted??? Yep. Does he act like a complete moron and make a fool of himself? Yep. Do many people get offended and disgusted by his behaviour? Yep. Is he funny? Yep!
Before all you Tom Green haters get all upset at me, just let me finish my review. :) I, luckily and proudly, was born and raised in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. The same town of Tom and his buddies who weekly make fools of themselves in front of millions of viewers. I have met Toma and Glenn Humplik personally as well, and to be quite honest, they are great guys. Now, to my review.
Tom is very different when it comes to comedy. He takes real life situations, uses real life people, and uses NO script! All of this stuff you see is completley adlib and is usually pretty darn funny. Yes, when I saw him throwing up after drinking too much, or biting into a hardened piece of cow manure, I got a little queasy. But to see Tom run onto the Gloucester Hornets Soccer Field and bug the players or force Glenn to take some acrobat lessons hungover is classic. Painting his parents car with lesbians and painting their house plaid is also good but what makes it so funny is the expression on their faces, how people react to him is the greatest. Nobody else does this kind of stuff because A) Its off limits to them or B) they don't know how to do it right. Tom is naturally this way. He makes a fool of himself day in and day out and doesn't care what people think. He likes to express himself and make people laugh. He loves it and millions of others do too. Of course, there is a ton of people out there who think it isn't funny. My response? Switch the channel and don't watch it again. Simple. I hate most sitcoms but do I complain and bicker? Nope. I simply don't watch it. Also, all of these stunts are not meant to hurt, offend or harm anyone in any way. The only people who really get mad are the people who are either in a bad mood or don't have a sense of humour.
I have seen Tom work his butt off in Ottawa and get a HUGE following and when MTV picked him up, I was proud. America loves hima nd I see him on a bunch of ads and I think he actually deserves it. Him and the rest of his friends really put effort into thinking up new skits and situations that were almost always funny! I know when I sit down to watch the show that I'm in for a treat.
Most adults will hate this type of comedy. It's meant for the younger crowd but yet, my 62 year old dad loves it and watches it religiously ever weekend. It comes down to what kind of sense of humour you have I suppose but again, if you don't like it, switch the station.
