When we first bought this system, we spent days arranging and rearranging our furniture to maximize the effect of the surround sound speaker system. I don't know if we achieved harmony & balance in our environment, but, with the help of this great home theatre system, we did achieve a great, balanced entertainment environment. This system would be a great addition to the entertainment center of almost everyone. I love both classical music and punk rock, and this system does equal justice to the music of both Wagner and the Clash, or any music that sounds good with the volume cranked. My husband loves war movies, and with this system, the bombs literally seem to be bursting in air. The sound is true & realistic (I have 4 dogs, & whenever a dog barks on the TV, they all jump up and look for it, which is something they don't do when the TV is on without the surround sound). The sound doesn't seem any louder in one part of the room than another, so the effect is balanced.
The set up of the system was pretty easy, and we were easily able to add our VCR, PlayStation, TV and DISH receiver to the system. The components are well set up, and the ease of use of the CD player is the best I have seen. It is very easy to switch from one track, or disc, to another, both from the controls on the unit itself & from the remote. The remote is very easy to use (although intimidating at first glance; with all the gadgets we have, we have a basket to hold our remotes, and this one has the most buttons of them all). All in all, we are very pleased with the system itself.
The main drawback to this system, from our perspective, is the cost. We were lucky; the particular system we purchased had been a floor model, and we got a VERY good deal on it as there was a dent in one of the speakers, and some scratches on the cabinet. Since we wouldn't be using the cabinet, & could turn the dented side of the speaker to the wall, this wasn't a problem for us, and we jumped on it. Had we had to pay full price, we really would not have been able to afford it, and probably would not have bought it.
I would recommend this system to those who spend alot of time at home, and appreciates good sound quality in a variety of entertainment. Although at the time we bought it, it did seem a bit of an extravagance, I am really glad we bought it, as it adds an extra dimension to all of our various types of home entertainment, and as we spend alot of time at home, it really was worth it, and probably would have been at the list price.
