Finally a CD player that can play MP3's

Written: Nov 22 '00
Pros:It plays your MP'3s
Cons:ALOT of bugs

I was looking for a CD player that could play MP3’s for such a long time. When the Rio came out I though, wouldn’t it be great if they had a CD form of this, I would buy it. Finally they did make it.

It’s still a first generation product, it has quite a few quirks, but it does play MP3’s just fine. I’m able to fit about 215 files on one disk, over 11 hours worth.

The good points: those can be found on the MPTrip’s site. It’s the bad points you should be aware of:

1.The instructions are the worst in the world.

2.The play and stop buttons are really small, though they work really well, they should be on the top of the unit (near the screen).

3.When it gets to the end of the disk, it turns off, which is pretty annoying since it takes over 30 seconds for it to rescan the disc.

4.It has one multiple item button to play it intro, random etc. The random feature should be a separate button, as you press the button you cycle through the options, when random is hit, it goes to some random song. This is bad when you accidentally push the button; it’s one of the large ones.

5.This thing EATS batteries. Get rechargeable batteries. I use a decent sized headphone, and I can’t get any more then 3 hours out of it.

6.Maybe it has something to do with the battery monitor, but every so often the beginning of a song will repeat itself, or there will be a pause in the middle of a song.

7.It will start skipping if the player tilts horizontally upside down.

8.The file order is a bit crazy on this thing. And it has some strange problem where it will incorrectly read the order of the directories after the batteries were replaced.

9.Also make sure the frequency is at 44,000 it won’t play anything if it’s lower. And it needs to be between 80k-196k (I heard that it can be as low as 32k, but it didn’t work for me.

As far as products go, this has a lot of bugs in it. If you want to get this, but don’t really need it, wait. I bought this because I couldn’t stand that awful Beatle music at work. I figured I could hook it up to my radio if they came out with a better version.
