| 33095's Full Review: Meridian 506.24 CD Player |
I compared this CD player against many, many competitors in the $1200-$4000 range in my home system (BAT preamp, Conrad Johnson amp, Thiel speakers) and it compared favorably to everything except the BAT player ($4K). The timbre is outstanding; instruments sound natural with plenty of air. The sound is very non-fatiguing. Vocals are superbly rendered. It also has great pacing and punch. To me, it sounds perfectly natural -- like being in the studio with the musicians.
In some systems the highs may seem a bit harsh -- I switched to relatively mellow MIT 330 cables and now it sounds great. If you enjoy a very detailed sound, such as the Theta Miles, then this player is not for you. It's more of a "tube lover's" player.
If you are listening to the Arcam players then I recommend you listen to this Meridian, the extra few hundred dollars will yield a tremendous improvement in sound.
The remote is great too.
