Pros: caller ID, lots of minutes, huge calling area
Cons: no local numbers for Hood River, yet!
The Bottom Line: With mass quantities of minutes, and a wide spread local calling area... this was definitely the way to go!

| manky's Full Review: VoiceStream |
When I started commuting (granted it's only half an hour) to work everyday, I thought that I ought to get a cell phone (and service) just in case. I started looking around on the internet, at local service offices, etc. and found that most of the plans in my area (I'm about an hour away from Portland) were expensive in my opinion, and didn't have all the bells and whistles I had hoped for.
One of my best friends has a phone with all the kinds of services I wanted, and it sounded a lot like what the VoiceStream dealer was offering me. I called her up and sure enough, she uses VoiceStream.
The biggest downfall is that they do not have local access numbers for Hood River or The Dalles. I decided to ignore that fact, understanding that they are working on it, and should have them in a couple months or so.
I've had nothing but good things to say about this company ever since I signed on with them. Everytime I have a question, or a problem, the customer service line is quick and efficient (and they don't charge you airtime for those calls!) I've got caller ID, so my local friends can call me, hang up, and I'll call them back (saves them on long distance).
My job is long distance from my home, but with this service, I can call anywhere in Oregon, Washington, or Idaho and it's local. Anyone who is moving around within these three states could save a lot of long distance and/or roaming charges usually incured, by using VoiceStream's plans.
The best part of the deal that I got was: a year's worth of "free weekends". With that little bonus, I get 500 extra minutes each month; usable all day Saturday and Sunday, to call any where in the US... Besides that's when I use my phone the most, running around town, calling everyone trying to get together, ordering food, etc.
As for holes... there's only two major holes I know of, one right between two rock hills on the freeway between work and home, and in another rock hill surrounded area just as you head out of Hood River. But you can almost always find the right place and way to stand there and make a call go through!
