Since you wrote this there have been a lot of advances. For example the new portables use type-r ATRAC (second gen 4.5). You can pick up an MZ-R70 for less than $200 if you know where to look, plus there is now good software out there to use your PC as a home unit. If you go to the mdcommunity.com page you'll find more than you ever knew existed for MD. Its a great format, but like cassettes they have had to work out bugs. Anybody that has a unit with pre-2.0 ATRAC knows what I mean.

Thanks for your feedback, Chad.

I wasn't using the remote to do synchro dubbing, so that is an important point. Although, I still think it's rather inconvenient to not have the synchro function on the base unit itself.

As for the portable MZ-E40 not recording, it's true that the package as a whole does record. But there are many times when I'll be on a trip, or at someone else's house and want to record and will be out of luck. This is often quite inconvenient when there are other options out there which can allow you the convenience and functionality of portable recording.

Best, Terence.

Terence -

On you comment on not being able to synchronize recordings: I have the MDBundle4, and I am able to synchronize very easily. There is a Music Synch. button on the remote that detects when the music starts. My Bundle came with a remote, but I understand that some Bundles do not. If your Bundle did not come with a remote, then I guess you are out of luck, because the main unit does not have this button.

On your comment about the MZ-E40 not recording: even though this unit does not record, you have to look at the cost of the package. The entire bundle costs less than a portable recorder/player. The cheapest portable recorder I have seen is the Sharp unit for $250. You have to take the cost into account. I have seen the MDBundle5 selling for $200!

Thanks,
Chad
