| RDS2112's Full Review: Jolida SJ 202A Integrated Amplifier |
So you gotta have tubes, huh?
These Jolida tube amps are inexpensive, and there's a reason for that folks. There's no preamp stage anywhere within the guts of this thing - just an attenuator and a cheap selector switch and point-to-point wiring. The chassis ain't bad, and the way they tried to hide the transformers is admirable at this price range. The tubes are cheap but easily replaceable. Parts issues aside, what we have here is a cute little TUBE amp with a variable resistor for a preamp and it makes pretty music. All warm and fluffy. As with all tube stuff, wait 30 minutes before forming an opinion on the sound.
All in all, when you put the low price in the equation, this ain't a bad deal. You get a neat little amp to take home and show your friends and it sounds OK. Best of all, there's room for improvement. Proceed with caution, otherwise recommended if this is what you want, but lets not pretend it's a Conrad Johnson or a Sonic Frontiers or a Cary Audio.
