| Goddessmother's Full Review: RCA DS5230RBC Dual LNB DIRECTV System |
I live in Connecticut but I am a die hard San Fran fan. So I was ecstatic when we got this system from my Mother In Law for Christmas two years ago. They have NFL Sunday Ticket. You Pay $160 and you get every televised game there is on Sunday. This meant I got to watch every 49ers game every week. (CT and MA are Patriots states and I usually only get to watch a couple games a year.)
This system consists of a small dish that can mount outside your window, and a box much like a cable box. (Oh and don't forget the remote control!) It seemed easy to install. The installers were only in our house for about an hour. Instead of the 3 hours it took to hook up our new cable.
The box is pretty stylish and it has many features. I can program it to come on, turn to a channel and make my vcr record all while I am sleeping. I can't even get my cable box to turn on by itself never mind change to another channel. I could change the colors of the guide and menu screens to one that I liked and make them opaque so that I could still watch TV while my husband was looking for the next thing to watch.
The service you purchase through Directv itself. The price varies by what channels you want to get, but starts at 20 dollars. I can't even get basic cable for that! They have the best movie channel packages there are. 7 Channels of HBO, 5 Channels of Cinemax, 12 Encore channels. The list goes on. It also has 3 Disney channels, and 2 Nickelodeon channels for those of you with kids.
"So, why do you miss your football?" you ask. Well, when we moved from MA to CT we moved to a complex which does not allow anything to be mounted outside. Since we could not get a signal when we mounted the dish inside the window (believe me we tried!) we had to get cable. Now with the pre-season starting I am really missing our Directv and my football! (Even though the Pats just played the 49ers.) I would definitely recommend this system to anyone who is sick of dealing with cable. I would actually recommend it to everyone.
