ad-dollars's Full Review: Sony MegaStorage® CDP-CX355 300-Disc CD Chang...
Each year, Santa a.k.a. my mom, has me compile a list of what I want if I was a good little boy, and the spoiled little brat inside of me always expects at least one expensive item. After thinking it over, I decided a new CD changer with larger storage capabilities than what I had is what I wanted. After all, I'm going to college next year and I expect to be using that OC3 line to download many new mp3s and burning them onto disc, and my old Pioneer 101 CD Changer would never satisfy my extreme laziness and love for purchasing new CDs.
So, yesterday I'm opening my gifts with anticipation and my eyes planted on the biggest package for the duration of the tedious process. And finally, after reaching that final gift, I'm glad to announce that Santa was good to me and I was given a Sony CDP-CX335 (300 Disc Changer). At first, the spoiled little brat angry because I ASKED FOR A PIONEER! But, my mom explained that the one I had wanted was sold out, that I should give this one a try.
After hooking it up, inserting all 120 CDs of my metal collection, and playing around with the features for literally 6 hours, I will never buy a Pioneer again, because Sony blows their products away for only a few extra dollars.
The Features:
First, for the basics.
The Sony CDP-CX335 is a CD changer with a carousel that fits 300 compact audio discs. If you plan to buy this as your output device, let me stop you in your tracks because this is a CD player component that holds your music collection and is used as the input device for an amplifier or any other type of audio output receiver.
One of the better features on my brand new CD changer is its display window. With its multiple viewing options, this device is customized to your preferences AND explains everything that's "going on" with your player. Besides numerics, it has the ability to display upper and lower case text and other symbols. This unique ability is the strength behind MY favorite feature of the Sony CDP-CX335, the feature that ultimately makes it better than the past changers I have owned.
This is perhaps the coolest audio device I've ever owned and my friends all agree. I have the option to name every CD in my 300 CD changer for organizational purposes. It stores the names in its memory as memos and the changer remembers it as long as I use it frequently. Naming your CDs makes alphabetical organization and clumsy and homemade play lists obsolete! Then, to utilize this awesome function further, you can search all the memos by pressing the "Memo Search" button and it goes through all the named CD in alphabetical order as you turn the dial! AWESOME!!!! Maybe I'm living in the stone age, but this at first seemed too good to be true. Well it works like a charm and I'll never have to remember which numbers in the carousel are which CDs and reorganize every time I buy a new one. In addition, if a CD has previously stored text, this changer will pick it up and read it every time. This includes track titles.
In addition to this unique storing technique, you can save multiple CDs under a custom group name. There are 8 group buttons so you can easily find and play every album by your favorite artist! Combine the group feature with the changers basic programming technology, and you are ready to DJ for the next party at your house.
There are so many awesome features on this CD changer that make it worth every penny. This morning, I used its nifty TIMER. Thanks to this feature, I was able to wake up on time to the roars of my favorite death metal! Also, if I ever purchase another Sony CD player product, this device has a function called "Mega Control" that enables you to hook up an additional player without compatibility problems OR a technical hassle with my receiver. They work interchangeably too!!
AND what CD player is useful without a REMOTE CONTROL?? The Sony CDP-CX335 comes with a full size controller that has a button for every possible function. As soon as I get the time to read its manual, I'll be able to lay back in my vibrating bed and be as lazy as I've always wanted to be, and still listen to some kickin' tunes without getting up or yelling to the nearest person in the house.
Overall Rating:
This CD changer is undoubtedly the best that I've ever seen in stores, and for its low sticker price of $300, it is a definite must buy for any music fan.
Because of its many advanced features, this device can be difficult, so I was going to give it a 4 of 5. But, after reconsidering and looking over the manual, the Sony CDP-CX335 gets a perfect 5 stars. Its very detailed and illustrated instruction manual covers every function and hook-up, so even the hapless techno-weenies can operate this device.
Also, it is made by Sony, a respectable audio company, so its durability is guaranteed, and I expect it to last for many many years, until my collection is at least over 300! It is light to carry and is made from seemingly high-quality plastic.
The device's overall size is comparably small to its competitors, and considering its storage capabilities and advanced memory functions, its tiny! In fact, it is only a few inches longer and no wider than my old 101 CD changer made by Pioneer that I just bought for the SAME price a little over a year ago. WOW!
THANKS TO BEST BUY FOR HAVING NO PIONEER, AND THANK YOU SANTA!
