AVR 1800: quality that will last
Jan 24 '00
While looking at receivers I found that Denon is well respected for high quality products. Although they generally don't have the most powerful receivers, from what I heard they use high quality materials so that their output is clear and consistent. Other receivers (like Sony or Pioneer) usually push for higher watts which can put your speakers at risk.
I was primarily looking for a stereo receiver that I would expand and use as an A/V receiver in the future. My goal was to be able to actively use this for 10+ years. So far it has performed very well. Most notably I have noticed that it produces clean low level sounds, like when I just want some background music.
The AVR 1800 is well built with all the processors that you could want right now with the inputs for future processors.
As far as compared to other Denon receivers, I can only tell that the AVR 2800 and 3600 just offer more power which I definitely did not need (they also were noticeably more expensive).
Set up is pretty easy, but you certainly have to spend a good couple of hours setting the speakers and that kind of stuff. The remote control is pretty good, especially because you get almost throw out all you other ones. It's rather large and not the easiest to navigate, but in time it becomes easier.
It is a very well built component, sturdy with a clean finish and smooth operation.
