Not worth the money
Apr 13 '00
I have an older unit. It is a bout 4 years old. I have had nothing but trouble with it after owning it for 6 months.
The unit then cost me $320 US before taxes. It has been sent out for repairs five times in the last four years.
The problems that I have had with it were;
*it wouldn't accept cds, it would skip constantly over the smallest cracks in the pavement,
*the LCD display started to "bleed" in one spot and soon enough it started to blend in with the numbers and therefore the track number could not be seen,
*when trying to turn up the volume- the tracks would skip,
*sometimes when trying to change tracks the unit would not respond,
*the numbers would become scrambled into 8888 on the display,
*display would flash (power outage).
The unit has weak spots in the plastic (air bubbles) and the latch that keeps the faceplate attached has broken off. I can see holes in the plastic where it has broken off. Due to this i can not play music.
I could list more. I have had this unit out on repairs for about 9 months out of the 4 years since the parts take about 7-10 weeks to ship. Of course the extended warranty has just expired. The warranty was a waste of money anyway, because it promised a new unit after the 3rd time it was out for repairs, but the company refused to replace it because the first 2 repair sheets they did not receive and therefore they would not count them towards that. I should have taken my friends' good advice and stayed away from Alpine for my car cd player, but since I've owned a tape deck by Alpine and currently own speakers I trusted the name. I have been nothing short of extremely frustrated and disappointed with the customer service and product quality from this company. You can bet that I will NEVER purchase anything with the name Alpine on it again and i hope that You will do the same.
