| bluemist1's Full Review: Kenwood KDC-C712 Car CD Changer |
I love CD quality sound but didn't want to give up my factory cassette stereo. So, a CD changer was the best approach.
I investigated a Sony model for the same price (about $270 for the changer, installed), but decided on the Kenwood because it allowed a greater choice of controls from the remote.
I have had the CD changer for a year and am very happy with it. The sound quality of this CD changer, even through the FM connection, is far superior to the cassette deck and better than any FM station.
The wireless remote's batteries are long-lasting (I haven't had to replace them yet) but the remote, being an infrared unit, requires you to point it at the infrared sensor. This can be mildly irritating when driving.
The CD changer rarely skips. It only skips when you take a huge bump (e.g. a pothole) at highway speeds. Switching between CD's is fairly slow. The changer requires about 7 seconds to switch between adjacent CD's.
Overall, the CD changer has performed well, without any problems. It has withstood -10 degree to 90 degree weather without any problems, and I am very satisfied with its performance.
