Mitsubishi HS-U500

I bought my Mitsubishi HS-U500 4 head VCR 3 years ago as a replacement to my aging JVC vcr. I liked the JVC better, but this unit does have some nice features the JVC didn't have.
There are additional input and audio terminals on both the front and rear panels. Having them on the front makes dubbing from a camcorder or other VCR a cinch.
The on-screen instructions made set up fairly easy. You have your choice of three languages (English, Spanish or French).
One of my favorite features is the "PerfecTape" feature. With the touch of a button, the vcr will test the quality of your tape and and adjust itself to make the best possible recording. It also shows you a graph that rates the quality of your tape from average to excellent. As tapes do wear out, this is a great indicator for discarding a worn tape
I also like the edit-search feature. During record pause, you can turn the shuttle ring forward or back to locate the exact point where you want to resume recording thus getting rid of the commercials. Also a good feature for editing home movies you're transferring from 8mm. The freeze
frame is a perfect still shot.
Although I have had no problems with this vcr, I probably would not buy another one. The prices on vcr's have come down dramatically, yet a Mitsubishi will still set you back $300-500 dollars. You can now buy new vcr's for about the same as you'd pay to get one repaired.
I also think vcr's are going to go the way of 8 tracks and vinyl lp's. Buy a cheaper vcr and save your money for a good dvd player.
