DishNetwork penalizes early purchases

Jan 31 '00

I purchased the DishNetwork system in August '99. Everything was just as described. The website recommended a dealer in my area and the installation was perfect. I have enjoyed the system to date.
With the passage of the congressional bill allowing satellite providers to broadcast local networks, I called to advise that I would like to subscribe to this at an additional cost of $4.99/ month.

I have now found where my system purchased in August 99 is obsolete. According to several customer service managers, the only way to receive new channels and local broadcasts is now to "upgrade" at a currently reduced cost of only $99.95. This upgrade will provide me with the "DISH 500" and capability to receive from a second satellite that will carry all future additional channels and the local broadcasts. The "Dish 500" was introduced to the market in September '99.

I am finding that I may have purchased too quickly...by ONE MONTH. I resent not being informed by either the website OR their recommended dealer about the introduction of the 500 system the very NEXT month!! Being that my system is only 5 months old, I am quiet upset that DishNetwork has offered no alternative solutions.

DishNetwork is currently offering new subscribers a full rebate program on this same system they want me to pay $99.95 for. I view this as unwillingness to achieve satisfaction.
