For my wife and I, one of the major reasons to have a cell phone is to coordinate on meeting one another when we are both on the road. Usually this coordination requires only 1 or 2 minute phone calls so our monthly usage of cellular minutes tends to be fairly low. Unfortunately, most plans that we looked into required us to sign up for separate phone accounts with more minutes than we could use and at a cost of at least $25/month per phone line. If you're in a similar situation, then th family talk plan offered by CellularOne will be just perfect.
For $25/month, we each get a phone number, share 50 minutes and pay for only one set of minutes when calling each other. The local coverage of this plan is excellent, spanning the western suburbs of Philly to as far up the northeast corridor as New Brunswick. Reliability is also quite high -- although lately I've had more difficulty getting a line than in the past. The deal also comes with free voicemail and numeric paging (text paging is available for an additional $5/month.)
One drawback of this plan is that it is not on the cutting edge in providing cellular serices. For instance, wireless web is not available at any price. Moreover, there are roaming and long distance charges for going outside the fairly generous local calling area.
I cannot comment on customer service since thankfully I've never had a problem after more than a year of use.
If you're looking for basic cellular service for multiple people in your household, you will not find a better value than this plan.
