| devilator's Full Review: RCA DS5230RBC Dual LNB DIRECTV System |
In the beginning I thought that this would be a great addition on to my home theater system. So I go out to buy one satellite and 2 receivers so I can have one in my family room, and one in my bedroom. I ended up getting both receivers and the satellite from a guy that buys around 20 and sells them to people. He had the best deal; overall it was around $350. So this meant I had to hook it up my self and that’s another adventure.
I got home and I took everything out of the box like everybody does when they get something new. Then I saw all these wires and directions and knew this was going to be one of those jobs that took the whole weekend. First I put all the pieces of the satellite together and made sure look right by comparing to the directions.
Then I hooked the satellite up to the roof facing a certain direction where the main satellite in space was. They give you a compass in the box that’s worth like 50 cents and expect you to try to use it to hook up a $200 satellite. When I was done hooking it up to the roof half the day was over but after you hook the wiring up you have to go back on the roof and play with it again.
Now I started on the wiring which was a pain in the A**. I ran the wire through the beams of my house and through the wall to my home theater system. After I connected the wire from the satellite to the receivers and the day was almost over.
I put on the receiver and played the satellite and luckily got it to work. After that I called the satellite company and got the premium program where you get all the movie channels and the sports channels. After it got hooked up I watched part of a movie and went to bed. The next morning I played with it and noticed that some of the sports channels that I wanted were not coming in. They call it the blackout rule which I had no clue means.
Listen to me; if you do get this item get someone else to install it for you. That’s about the only money that is well spent when you buy it. Now when you turn it on first you have to turn your regular TV on first and turn it to channel 3. Then you can turn the satellite on and watch what you want. Most of the channels on the satellite are garbage, which you would rather go running than watch the show. There are some good shows on certain channels.
The movie channels are probably the best things to watch. Though the movies do repeat over and over every day. There are some positives to having satellite TV like the digital picture, The Movies, and The Sports channels. You can even get deals where you get the whole baseball, hockey, or football season for like $150. The guide on the top helps a lot to figure out what’s on and what time it started and ends. It can also tell you what the show is rated and about the show. The System also has a guide that shows you what will be on for the next 3 hours.
If you are looking at a satellite I hope you read my opinion and see how much aggravation it has cost me.
