PART ONE -- the early days
I just bought this mini system two days ago. This is the first stereo I have ever purchased for myself, but is probably the tenth stereo I have owned.
This mini system has a sort of double edged sword. It has many, many, options, all on a few buttons. When you take time to read the manual, and reread the manual, this system works wonderfully, but it can be confusing and overwhelming if you don't spend the time it takes to learn the system.
There are several graphics equalizer presets, and you can program in 5 of your own settings. The system is small, but powerful. The speakers sound great, thanks to the built in subwoofers. One of the best features is that you can change two cds while listening to the other one!
There are lighted graphic displays, but this one is not really over the top, like the others. It looks more like an "adult" system.
There are, however, a lot of features for younger people, such as a silly game that is like a slot machine, incase you are bored with listening to music. Another feature for the younger set is Karaoke. You don't even have to buy those special karaoke discs. It takes the voices off of most cds when you use the karaoke feature, so you can sing a long with the background music. This feature would be great for young kids, and drunk college kids.
I actually have tried my hand at the Karaoke feature. Go ahead, laugh if you want. It was so easy to do. I just popped in a cd and plugged in the microphone that came with my computer. Viola! I was the star.
Overall, it is loaded with features, for many different kinds of music listeners, in all age groups. It is not always easy to access all of the features without the manual handy, at first.
PART TWO -- Now that I've had it a while
Actually, this is where rewrites help. I've had this stereo for a few months now, and I have gotten to learn how to use all of the important features, like karaoke, changing the graphics equalizer settings, and setting the clock and the alarm. It is possible to learn how to use these features so that you don't always need the manual handy, but it is a little tricky.
Another thing I did not realize when I posted my original review was that the stereo was so loud. Well, I actually don't know how loud the stereo is. I've gotten it up to level twenty on the volume dial (only once, when I was trying to drown out the people in the next apartment who were listening to their music too loudly. Drowning them out is much easier when I need to write a paper or sleep, than asking them to turn it down.), and that was too loud. I am not sure how loud the volume can go before the sound quality is effected.
I don't know squat about stereos (except for the fact that I like this one), but I think the reason this stereo is so loud is the powerful built-in subwoofer. You can hear my stereo thudding away for miles, it seems. The funny thing is, my volume is always down low (usually in the 8-12 range) and I never have the extra bass feature on. I try to be considerate, but there is no way to listen to this beast without blowing everyone way. No matter how low the volume goes, there is still a constant bass thud, like a heart beat.
The sound is great, but will blow you away. This stereo is best suited for younger people and seems a little "ghetto" because of the thudding bass. Even though it might sound a little "ghetto," it looks very classy, and actually sounds great on all the music I play (from rap like DMX, to heavy metal like Metallica, to folk music with Jerry Garcia and David Grisham).
