This lens was quite an accomplishment in its time, being one of the first f/1.2 lenses made. It was not, and is not as good as the f1.8 50mm, unless you really need the higher speed. It is an impressive looking piece of glass, if impressing your fellow photogs is your goal.
But, if you want a 50mm lens, why not the f/1.8, at a much lower price.
I bought the f/1.2 used for around $300, mostly because I had always wanted one when I was in college, and could not afford it. I rarely use it, because the high speed films that are available now (and which were not when this lens was introduced in the 70's) make the high speed unnecessary. It is heavy at 13 oz, and while it is sharp, it is not as sharp as the 1.8. Of course, if you really want a sharp f/1.2, there is always the 58mm noctilux (!), if you have a thousand or so dollars lying around
