I've had Sprint PCS in both Phoenix and LA. The best part is the price...500 minutes for only 50 bucks. But the service in both cities is so-so. Often while on the highway, I will be cut off and receive a message that "the signal faded". Even when traveling (in NYC for instance) I found that I can't get a signal in many parts of Manhattan. But when I do get a signal, it is usually clear, although I can occasionally hear an echo. I know Sprint is investing in improving the quality, but if quality is more important to you than price, I say go with AT&T.
The other problem I have found with Sprint is their customer service. The time it takes to get a live operator varies, but I have had to wait as much as 20 minutes. Once you get an operator, the quality of service can vary a great deal as well. Some of the operators are extremely helpful and go out of their way to fix your problem or find the information you need. Others have proved to be completely incompetent.
Finally, when I purchased my service and my phone I was promised a free lighter re-charger thing (don't know what those are called). I have called 5 times trying to get it and they keep telling me they are on back-order.
