I was very skeptical about spending $400 on just a CD player. I mean, there are other things involved in the whole process of setting up your car audio system: amps, woofers, tweeters, the whole bit. But when the Pioneer DEH-P86DHR finally went on sale through Crutchfield for $299, I had to snatch it up and I haven't been disappointed yet.
This is the second Pioneer super-tuner I have owned, but this is unlike anything I have imagined. I still haven't been able to figure out all of the features, but that's simply because there are so many... disc titling for as many as 48 CDs, wireless remote control, seek tuning, 18 station presets, and this "supertuner v" feature pulls in great FM signals. I can get my favorite stations in Miami that I was never able to pick up before.
I guess the most important thing is sound quality and I haven't had any problems yet. With my last car stereo, I had problems with my amp overheating and certain speakers cutting in and out, which distorted the sound quality terribly... but with the same system and my new receiver, the problem disappeared. I don't know enough about the specs to say it's a direct result from getting the DEH-P86DHR model, but it works and that's all that matters to me. Now, my next investment will be a hearing aid!
