| acodega's Full Review: RCA CC4352 VHS Analog Camcorder |
Along with a co-worker, I run a print shop and audio visual department. When the last of our VHS camcorders died, we searched up and down for a replacement VHS camcorder, it was hard. We own a VHS-C and a Hi-8 camcorder but the need for a regular VHS camcorder was present. Finally, we found this RCA camcorder.
The camcorder has the usual features, b/w viewfinder with diopter adjustment, a handful of special effects, a basic titler, in-camera tape player and RCA/RF (Not to be confused with "RCA" the brand) outputs. But very surprisingly, there is NO mic jack, something which every camera has.
Now, the best feature of the camera, and something which is uncommon in full size VHS cameras, is the 3 inch color flip screen, that comes out in front of the operator's face and is fully rotatable, to let the person being taped view the recorded image. This feature is GREAT. Very nice when your using a tripod or taping yourself or walking while recording.
On the topic of recording, I don't understand the logic behind the placement of the record button. The button is placed on the zoom butterfly style button, not in the standard location, where the right hand thumb rests. This has two downfalls. The first is that it makes it easy to hit the record button by accident, and it also makes it harder to grip the camera because your thumb usually provides leverage, but without the button and "sidewall", it's harder to grasp and use in a relaxed position.
All in all this is a good camera with nice features, especially the 3 inch color screen, but both downfalls make no sense. I don't see any reason to do what they did with the record button and the (lack of a) mic jack.
