| bhappy's Full Review: Nakamichi AV-10 |
I replaced Adcom GFA 555 Series equipment when I finally decided to begin the migration to Home Theater. Being that one of my best friends is in the High End audio business, I always lean on him for advice and council.
It was time to retire the Adcoms and my beloved magneplanars were beginning to show their age (rattles) When I asked Tommy what was the right receiver to get, onkyo, yamaha, sony, he immediately took me to a demo room with the Nakamich AV-10 hooked up to some JM Lab 905s with a Velodyne HGS in the corner... needless to say, I was hooked. The Nakamich does NOT run out of power. EVER ! Effortlessly this unit powers the JM Labs speakers...I also had my old maggies hooked up to them for a time too, drove them easily.
On home theater stuff the unit is flawless, on audio (my true love) it is not the equal of good separates (like my Adcom stuff) but it is no slouch either...It will throw a decent soundstage (though not as deep as my adcom) but, sacrifices must be made !
My only complaint about this unit is the FM Tuner section is week. My GFT-555 pulls in way more stations, even with this thing hooked up to one of those cute little Terk jobs.
Scale of 1-10 I give this a 9.
