Sharp VC-H813-U

I had read several glowing reviews of Sharp's lower-end VCR models, so I felt pretty confident in buying one, a model VC-H813U. I had read reviews specifically praising that model. The unit seems to be in fine shape, has a nice design and feel. But why is it that nobody mentioned how noisy it is to operate? During quiet scenes in a movie, you are very aware of the whirr of the tape heads. I am also having trouble with the picture quality -- it's very grainy, even with a good-quality tape. I thought no video tape recorder could be worse than my last one. I was wrong.
I am sorely disappointed.
