| ldusold's Full Review: RCA DS2122RD Single LNB DIRECTV System |
First of all I'd like to say that I do not personally own this system.
But my Boss does. I work privately in someones home taking care of an 80 year old woman with alzhiemers disease. The TV is on quite a bit... They have just switched from Primestar to Direct TV... So far I think that Direct TV is good, but when I was going through things with my boss who is also in her 80's I have noticed that some of it's features are not so good.
The Remote
The remote is pretty simple to use I think. But to an elderly person, I don't think it's so great. It's so many different buttons to use for different things that it can become confusing to someone if they don't know what they are doing. I had to litterally pretend with her in order to get her to be able to switch between satalite and regular TV. I had to basically show her and test her on how to bring up the channel line up from any point. But she will get the hang of the remote I'm sure.
The On Screen Display
First of all I think the display itself is set up nicely. BUT for someone that has trouble seeing small things? It really isn't good at all. First of all the channel number only shows up in a small area in the top corner of the television. VERY HARD TO SEE I must say!!! At least with primestar the actual box also showed the channel number that you were on. So as for showing the numbers unless you have a BIG SCREEN TV then it really isn't that great. I would have to say that Primestar is better in that department.
Overall I would say that Direct TV is a great system, if you can deal not being able to see the actual channel that you are on... I think that my favorite thing about it other than the channel packages, is that with the remote you can bring up the channel guide with a push of a button, and you can scroll through it yourself instead of like on other ones where you have to wait while it goes around to find what you want... You can choose by catagory, Sports, Music, Movie etc.... Once you find the Movie or show that you would like to watch, you can see in the corner a preview of THAT movie, and if it's what you want to watch.. just press another button and WOW there it is... simple as can be.... I like it...
