| MamaKat's Full Review: Sony SAT-B3 Digital Satellite System |
We've had DirecTV for about 2 years now. We first decided to get it when our local cable company increased their rates yet again. We were tired of high price and low quality. We've been extremely pleased with our satellite system. We only subscribe to the basic package, but that's enough for us. However, even with their higher priced package you get more for the money than comparable cable packages. The system pays for itself in about a year.
The system is easy to set up and use. Switching back and forth from satellite to regular broadcast is simple too.
To make it even better, many areas can now get their local channels, thanks to Congress. It's just become available in our area and we are in a free preview at this time, but we'll subscribe to it when the preview ends. I should note that the only local channels you get are ABC, CBS, NBC, and FOX affiliates. You most likely won't get your local PBS or independent stations.
The only drawback is in a big storm we lose the satellite signal. Minor cloudiness doesn't affect it, but major thunderstorms do. You get a blank screen until there's a break in the clouds.
We'll never go back to high priced local cable tv.
