| BR-549.5's Full Review: GE 2-9921 900MHz Cordless Phone |
I'll admit that I am not the first person to jump on board when something new comes down the pike. For example, I still don't own a DVD player or a cell phone, and my 166 megahertz computer is now approaching antiquehood at three years plus of age. I am telling you all this to let you know that I may have taken a little baby step into the new century when I recently broke down and purchased a new cordless phone.
I live out in the country and for the most part I like it, except when the phone rings. When I am roaming about my vast one acre property it is nice to know that I no longer have to make a mad dash to catch an incoming call when I am at the far end of my property.
By the way, the answer is yes, I do have an answering machine! I think even Fred Flintstone has one of those now. But I digress, why did I wait so long to get my cordless phone when these things have been around for a decade or more? Well there are several reasons for that, and I will briefly say that one reason is that I never liked talking to mom when she was speaking to me on her prehistoric model which was a static magnet.
Enter the world of 900 megahertz technology and my General Electric model 2-9921. This phone is simply amazing! I can carry this thing to my mailbox at the far edge of my property (approx. 100 feet away) and the quality of the reception is as clear as it is inside my house. There is no fading in or out as I put several walls and the brick exterior of my house between the headset and the base receiver. I don't know what "Compandor Noise Reduction Circuitry" is, or how it works, but it is apparently what is responsible for making the sound so good on this phone.
The feeling of freedom with this phone is really great and before 900 megahertz technology came about, the trade off between freedom and sound quality was in my opinion, not a good one. That problem no longer exists and true freedom has finally arrived!
The phone is also quite light and easy to handle. There are some other features on this phone that I think are worth mentioning.
PAGE/FIND:
I am one of those people who are always leaving things in places that require a search party to locate them, and so the Page/Find button is a great idea for me. Just press the button on the base unit and it sends a signal to the headset that then produces a loud audio beep so you can find it.
OUT OF RANGE WARNING:
Self explanatory, basically a red light that comes on when you are getting close to the range limit. I don't know how far that is, as I have yet to have it activate.
LOW BATTERY WARNING:
Similar to the previous feature. Let's you know that it is time to place the headset back in the base charger.
This phone also comes with a belt clip and a hands-free headset. As you can tell by now, I am very impressed with the GE 900 megahertz model 2-9921. I believe it is a high quality phone that delivers great sound quality and range, and it appears that this is now one more modern device that I am no longer going to be able to live without.
