| SpeedSailor's Full Review: Sony MHC-RXD2 Bookshelf Audio System |
I bought two mini component systems for my daughters this Christmas. The Sony MHC-RXD2 was one of them. It has proved itself thus far to be a durable system with perfectly nice sound, but...(isn't there always a but!)...
I was really disappointed in the system not having any aux/out jacks so that my daughter could plug her hi-fi vcr into it. In addition to that, the system lacks any real ability to tailor the sound, other than the standard rock-pop-dance settings. You do have a DFBB gain to reinforce the bass, but that is it. In truth, I had a hard time distinguishing the differences between the rock-pop-dance settings, but with DFBB engaged, you heard a startling difference in lower end bass response. That was nice.
The CD changer works flawlessly and is surprisingly quiet. The system has a really nice feature for my daughter in that you can set it to fall asleep to her favorite music and the unit will turn itself off after a predetermined time. You can also have the unit wake you up to your favorite music, which is a nice and unexpected plus with this system.
The overall sound quality is good and my daughter has no complaints at all (other than the lack of aux/out jacks) but I come away thinking that while Sony did some things very well with this unit, they did it by deleting other, more desirable features.
