Pac Smell PCS

Written: May 20 '00
Pros:GSM is an awesome technology and PCS is the best digital sound
Cons:One of the worst coverage for South Bay Area I've ever seen.

I went with Pac Bell PCS almost two years ago when I was looking to go digital. I first went with Cellular One and begged them within a month to cancel me. I then went to Pac Bell because I believe GSM is the best way to go and also it was the only service that had no roaming within California and Neveda. So how are they? One word: Crappy! You would think in the heart of Silicon Valley I'd get a descent signal, nope. I work in Palo Alto and I'm lucky to get one slash mark (out of five on my StarTac) when in town. Signal strength is spotty all over the south Bay Area. I get frequent dropped calls and choppy conversations. To make matters worse, their voice mail is a joke. If you lose your signal, even for an instant, and someone calls at that moment and then when you regain a signal, guess what? You don't get notified of the message. I've had people leave me a message and it would be 24 hours until the phone told me! I thought digital was suppose to change that? I call Pac Bell's customer service and they said there's nothing they can do about it! Give me a break. Pac Bell is a total joke and they've made an awesome technology useless. I'd go with GTE, but they're phone selection sux, so I'm looking at AirTouch now (or Sprint PCS.) If you're in the South Bay Area, go with GTE.
