| gungian's Full Review: Aiwa NSX-MT725 Digital Mini Theater System |
. . . “To Mom & Dad, a Christmas Hearing Aid!” A piece of red yarn tethered the handwritten note to the green bow on the large, gaily decorated box next to the tree. Now I am hard of hearing, but my bride can hear a snore before it leaves the body. So what, we wondered, was this “Hearing Aid” that was suitable for a combined present?
At the time, our current “entertainment system” consisted of a turntable [as in for records], a single cassette tape player, and two box speakers. The “newest” component probably dated to the late 1970s. The kids correctly surmised that a replacement system was long overdue. Our children had selected the ideal gift.
Our “Hearing Aid” is an AIWA compact disc stereo system NSX-MT725.
The central unit is a compact disc stereo cassette receiver. That unit contains an AM/FM radio, a double tape deck, and a CD player with 3-disc changer. The system also includes a remote control unit and external speakers. Wow I thought this is going to take a team of electrical engineers to assemble. Wrong, Epinionated One! Even ole’ “technologically challenged” Gungian had this baby shakin’ the glassware in under an hour.
The external speakers are designed to deliver a SURROUND effect. Hooking the TV into this system was also fairly easy. This is a feature that is an especially great attribute for enhancing movie watching. Now even my ears can distinguish the train chug from right to left—or is that the plane zoom from left to right? Oh, you get the idea!
Some awesome features [remember my level of technological comprehension] include:
1. Volume control ranging between 0 and 50 [about 13 for my wife and 27 for me].
2. CD changer with 3-disc capacity [you can go in sequential or random order]
3. Dual cassettes [allow both playing and taping
4. Electronic graphic equalizer [has 5 pre-sets and 5 manual]
5. Digital signal processing [gives clear tones across the range]
For those more technologically inclined, the Operating Instructions are easily read and followed. For the multi-lingual among you, instructions are presented in English, French, and Spanish.
This was a marvelous present. Joni Mitchell, Dixie Chicks, the Irish Tenors, "Judging Amy", and “Who Wants To Be A Millionaire” all sound better on this system. The system lists for under $400.00 but I have no idea what the kids paid because . . . “it was a present”!
