I received this camera from my mother in law for Christmas. I initially thought that it would be a valuable tool to use in my practice. My thoughts were soon changed.
The unit is a handy size and childishly simple to operate, but the images captured could be better rendered by a child with crayons.
If you think that this would make a gift for a child, get a Polaroid sticker camera (or some crayons and paper). It generates better images and an instant hard copy.
The software automatically installs. Others have noted the problems that this can create since no allowance is made for designating the destination of the files.
The shape of the camera renders use with the enclosed pedestal impossible. It’s too tall to be stable on the base provided, although it would probably work if the base were glued to a fixed surface.
The performance of this camera placed me in the untenable position of a son in law not “appreciating” his gift. The problem was solved by the untimely demise of my lovely wife’s kitchen mixer.
I gallantly offered to return the camera to the store for a mixer.
So to sum it up, I would rather my wife have a kitchen appliance than to retain the gift of this camera.
I plan to continue to use my video camera and Grabit (an inexpensive parallel port analog to digital video converter) for my digital images.
