Well, I really hate to write this letter, but after couple of weeks
using the Mambo X I waited ages to arrive, I see no other choice but to
face the simple facts...
Where will I start, let's see...
OK, the first problem I've encountered is that the Mambo X has problems
recognizing MP3 files with a non-English name. Since I live in Israel,
and also listen to Israeli music, I burned an MP3 CD filled with 170
MP3's with names in Hebrew. Surprisingly, the Mambo X only recognized
63
of them. When I renamed all files to numbers instead of hebrew names,
it
recognized and played all.
I wrote about this to their tech support, and got a quick response of "we passed this matter
to the technical staff and they will check it". Till now, I did not got
any response about this subject.
They claim the product has sophisticated anti skip technology. Well,
when I go in the street with the player, it skips a lot. When the
player
is on a table, it doesn't skip, but that's not really the point of a
portable player, is it?
After a few days with the Mambo X I noticed that there's a power
problem. Batteries run out after less then an hour. I thought that it's
maybe because I use rechargeable batteries, which are not as strong as
regular ones. So I bought a Duracell pack and started using them.
Still, the player stopped playing after a few songs. Then I noticed
that
it usually happens when I walk. I checked this matter further, and it
turned out that sometimes when making sharp moves (going down stairs,
for example) - the power turns off, regardless of battery power. Also,
sometimes it gets turned off even when not making sharp moves
(walking...). Right now that's my most critical problem with this
player.
Beside that, both the buttons on the player and on the remote are hard
to operate. You need to press them really strong in order to make them
operate. They are not sensitive enough, and sometimes you find yourself
turning the volume too high or too law because the buttons are not
sensitive.
Beside all those defects, it's also disappointing to see that regular
expected features are not in the player, like moving to a middle of a
song (and i'm not even talking about an MP3 one, but also in a song on
a
regular music CD), different playing modes for different types of
music.
When it comes to MP3 features, the playing of m3u files is a big lack.
I've waited for the Mambo X for 4 months, and all I get is
disappointment, malfunctions and defects.
I had good hopes for the Mambo X, and therefor I ordered it without
waiting for it to come out to the market first and asking reviews from
people. I guess that was a big mistake of mine, I'm not gonna do it again, that's for sure.
