| goclimb's Full Review: Sprint Mobile Phone Service in Seattle/Tacoma/Ever... |
Overall I would have to give this plan a thumbs up. We have the $29.99 plan, and that gives us enough minutes each month to cover the small number of calls we make. And since they are anytime, long distance minutes, we feel free to call anytime. When we are in a Sprint PCS area, the calls are clear and we have no problems.
But, leave a Sprint PCS area, and the phone basically becomes no more good than a cement life preserver! I recently took a trip from Seattle to Tucson, AZ. The vast majority of my trip was spent on the I-5 corridor - an area that maps indicate is covered by either the Sprint PCS network, or analog roam. Once again, when I was within the network, everything was great. But, after that, forget it. I was NEVER able to make a call from outside the Sprint network - each time I got a "signal faded" message and my call was dropped. So, unless I happened to be near a major metropolitan area, my phone was useless.
Ironically, my apartment in Kirkland, WA, is also out of range. Travel a half mile away, and I can use my phone! Geesh!
We also had problems ordering our phone. Initially we tried using the web interface to do it, but didn't input some information EXACTLY as it was written on our billing information for our credit card, so we ended up calling them. We ordered a phone, which were were told was to ship in a couple of days. Weeks later we still hadn't received the phone because it was on back order, and nobody chose to tell us about it. Customer service with Sprint seems less than stellar.
All in all, when the phone works, it works well. But, the limitations I experienced on my trip left we with bad feelings overall.
