| surferdude7's Full Review: Sony RM V8A Universal Remote Control |
A remote under $10 and it is easy to use. The Sony RM-V8A remote will operate your TV, VCR and a Cable Box. I bought mine at a local store for only $8.99. This remote is like 3 remotes in one. It will program to most of your major brands.
We have an old Sylvania 31" TV and the remote was not working anymore so it was time to find a new one. I did not want to pay a lot since this was an old TV we have in the computer room. I checked out a lot of brands and decided on the Sony RM-V8A. At such a low price, batteries were not included, you will need 2 AA batteries.
It weighs about 3.5 ounces and in size is 2 ½" wide and tapers down to 1 ¾" x 7 5/8" long x 1 1/4'' thick. It is pre-programmed to know the command functions of most major brands and a Code search function to learn what your codes are if they are not listed. There are 32 buttons total, it is balanced well and feels good to control. This is a very easy to operate remote.
It has a Picture-in-Picture function that works on mine with one problem, it won't move the small picture around the screen like the original one. I can turn the small picture on and off and change it to whatever channel I wish. I guess for $8.99, I don't mind the one little glitch.
Battery Life is expected to last 6 months to one year depending on how much you use it. It should operate at a distance of about 23 feet.
There is a TV Menu Function to help you set up your TV and a Sleep Function so you can set a time for the TV to shutdown.(Your TV must be able to use a sleep timer for this to work.)
There is a Memory backup so when you change batteries you won't lose your programming. You can also recall the last channel you were on.
Summary of the Sony RM-V8A Remote
The remote feels good with the tapered down design. The buttons are all easy to use without having to move your hand all around the remote. The buttons are a good size, not like some that have smaller buttons.
My old RCA VCR works great with it, I couldn't tell you how it works with a cable box because I don't have one.
If you are looking for a new remote and don't want to give an arm and leg for one than I highly recommend the Sony RM-V8A Remote. To get an original remote for my Sylvania was $89, so this little remote is a bargain.
The quality of this remote seems solid and should last for years.
