| jsbs104's Full Review: Nikon Pronea S Film Camera |
I owned an Olympus OM-2 for fifteen years and loved it. My biggest complaint over those years was a desire for auto-focus and Nikon. My wife surprised me with the Pronea S December 98 and at first I was disappointed, wanting the N-70. After 18 months I love this camera. A recent trip to Europe brought with it several shots that are being framed and placed in my office. And I am at best a medium photographer. Why the quality, it's the camera. Friends who bought the N-70 at the same time complain about the weight and the confusion surrounding their shots, not with the Pronea. It's simple, lightweight and the end result is Nikon-quality photos. The ability to use all of the Nikon AF lenses is also a huge plus.
I have shot my kid's soccer games, mountain scenery, still-life, animals, touristy and each and every setting produces excellent results. My kid's now want me to shoot their games so they can show off the results to their friends, and we're talking about teenagers. They also feel comfortable posing for daddy's shots because they like the results. My fifteen year old daughter wants to take a photography course with me. Whow!
I do have a couple of minor negatives. The flash is inadequate for longer shots when using a telephoto, the advertisement of no red-eye is about 75-80% accurate, buying filters at 46mm (the pronea-lens size) is next to impossible, and I do miss the "Manual" setting of my Olympus.
With these minor inconveniences the $400 spent for the body and lenses is a steal.
