You can't go wrong!

For Christmas, I received a DVDROM drive for my computer. It doubles as a DVD player and CDROM. In this review I will tell you the pluses of DVD in general, and that of having one in your computer over having one for your TV entertainment system.
Clarity
The first thing I hear out of everyone's mouths as I put on a DVD is that it is so clear. And they aren't kidding. The video from the DVD is Crystal clear with spectacular quality. It's like going from a bad antenna connection to digital cable. Though DVD's will occasionally skip due to dust on the disk or the lens, you don't have the severe tracking problems like you do with older VCR's.
Rewind
If you are like me, you hate rewinding tapes. If you don't want to run down your VCR you need to buy a re-winder and you have to spend 5 minutes rewinding one movie before you can pop in the next, you know the drill. With DVD you don't have this problem. If you want to go back to something you missed you can jump back a scene or just back up a little bit like you would with an audio CD. If you only want to watch one scene from the movie, you have the option to jump directly to it without the fast-forwarding time. Another bonus is the perfect pause. With a VCR the pause is blurry and some of the sound gets cut out when you start the machine up again. With DVD a touch of a button can stop it and start it with perfect clarity (and you can get that great butt shot in still if you so desire =o)).
Special Features
One of my favorite things about owning a DVD player is the special features that come with most movies. You get anything from interactive games, to interviews, behind the scenes looks at production, and even deleted scenes. There is something a little extra on almost all DVD's whether they are special edition or not.
Computer Over TV
The number one reason why I would choose to install a DVD player into your computer is price. My player cost a mere $110.00 while on for an entertainment system can cost up to $400.00. Many people don't realize that DVD technology was in computers first, and this is why the price is lower.
A DVDROM can be both DVD and a regular CDROM, it takes up less space, and the quality is just as good as it would be otherwise. If you have the proper video card in your computer you can hook it up to your TV to play your DVDs on the big screen
General Comments
All in all, DVD is more convenient, higher quality, and more fun than the regular old VHS tapes. More and more movies are being released onto DVD and the newer movies are being released on DVD first. Prices are coming down and with selection becoming bigger, there really is no reason not to go out and try your hand at DVD.
